She only read books with bent spines; broken at the best pages.
She bought them used, borrowed, second hand victims.
She carefully cleaned the margins : this tireless disannotation.
She read alone and aloud in her room; each word an island.
She began in the middle and worked back, omitting as necessary.
She rarely finished.
She forgot.

A strangely compelling combination of carelessness and compulsiveness…
Makes me curious to know how this character behaves when engaged in more everyday necessities, like brushing teeth, putting on socks or – dare I add – buttering toast?
